Professional Support
Are you new to university lecturing in teacher education? • Would you value a mentor? • Would you like to join the English Subject Network?
If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, then look no further.
The Subject Resource Network for English is run as a collaboration between the National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE) and the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA).
Support for new lecturers is offered through this consortium in three ways:
- A Website to support Teaching English in ITE www.ite.org.uk This is a rich collection of ideas and information on different aspects of teacher education for both primary and secondary English.
- Mentor Support There is already a programme to offer support to newly appointed lecturers, whether on PGCE, BA (Ed) or SCITT schemes. If are in your first or second year of teaching English in Education to undergraduate or postgraduate students – primary or secondary and would like an experienced colleague from another University to mentor you, contact: David Stevens: david.stevens@durham.ac.uk
- Mentor Induction Conference This provides an opportunity for new/ish lecturers to get together, examine materials and resources, share experiences and discuss issues. This year’s conference is on 4/5th April 2009 at Hinkley, Leicestershire. To find out more email David Stevens: david.stevens@durham.ac.uk'
