Assessment at Key Stage 3
As I write, the demise of the National Tests (SATs) at Key Stage 3 has left many questions as to what shape 'formal' assessment at Key Stage 3 will take in the future. We are told that 'single level' tests will not be adopted at Key Stage 3, so there is genuine hope that teachers' assessment will return as the dominant form of assessment at this level. There are, however, ongoing pilots of 'Shakespeare Tasks' and Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP material can be downloaded from http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/secondary/keystage3/respub/englishpubs/ass_eng/).
