Centre for Literacy in Primary Education Olivia's special interests are: Spelling - she is the co-author of a book for teachers Understanding spelling (Routledge 2007), based on a 3 year research project; Children with literacy difficulties - she was for many years a classroom teacher and English coordinator in a special school; ICT - with a particular interest in multimedia and children with literacy difficulties; Gender and literacy - Olivia is co-author of Boys on the Margin (Safford, O.Sullivan and Barrs, 2004) the result of a one year research project. She teaches extensively on CLPE's courses for teachers and teaching assistants, has worked on school development projects, and as a consultant internationally. She is currently leading and writing about a CLPE project The Power of Reading aimed at raising teachers. and children.s pleasure in reading and which involves 150 schools in a number of local authorities.
