The teaching of myths: planning a scheme of work
Through what activities?

What are the pupils doing throughout this unit of work?

This is a space for student teachers to list the kinds of activities that the SOW includes. Such a list can encourage them to think about planning for range and variety of activity in the different communication modes, and to identify the learning that the different activities should promote. One student teacher's list for the Myth SOW looked like this:

  • story telling: anecdotes, stories, myths
  • listening to stories – group presentations
  • pairs present a picture on IWB with their annotations
  • class debate: which god shall we keep?
  • drama: interviews for a place on Olympus from aspiring gods
  • drama: what is an heroic act?
  • writing: comparing two different versions of the same myth
  • writing: creating a new myth
  • exploring: using the internet to answer questions
